Peter Tatchell, former Green Party Candidate for Oxford East, says "Vote Lib Dem"

Peter Tatchell, the former Green Party candidate for Oxford East has urged voters to back the Liberal Democrats.

The Pink News reported:

"Mr Tatchell, who remains the party's human rights and LGBT spokesman, told a Instigate debate last night in London that even people who usually vote Green should support incumbent Lib Dem candidates or those likely to succeed."

Peter Tatchell added:

"...the Lib Dems are the only major party committed to a fairer voting system."

"If they hold the balance of power, the Lib Dems will almost certainly ensure a fairer voting system which will be the single biggest democratic advance in Britain since the suffragettes."

Steve Goddard, Oxford East Liberal Democrat candidate said "The fight in Oxford East is between the Lib Dems and Gordon Brown's Labour. In 2005 we slashed Labour's majority from over 10,000 to just 963. The Conservatives finished a distant 3rd and the Green Party came 4th and lost their deposit."

"Our Labour MP voted for the Iraq war, voted for tuition fees and voted against Lib Dem attempts to make parliament sign up to the 10:10 campaign to cut carbon emissions. Only the Liberal Democrats opposed the Iraq War in parliament. Only the Liberal Democrats opposed tuition fees and have a clear plan to abolish them, as we did in Scotland. Only the Liberal Democrats can deliver real action on the environment in parliament."

"Peter is not alone. Many former Green Party voters are supporting us in Oxford East because they know that we are the only party that can beat Labour here."
