Lib Dem city councillor Jim Campbell has criticised the Labour administration in the city which plans to spend £30,000 on consultants to develop a strategic vision and business plan for Oxford's markets. Cllr Campbell wants the council to spend the money immediately on the Covered Market - a hidden gem in the heart of Oxford which urgently needs refurbishment.

Said Cllr Campbell: "We believe there is sufficient experience and expertise within the Council and the Market Traders' Associations to develop our own vision based on a Leasing Strategy drawn up in 2005. We are opposed to wasting money on consultants and urge that the money that would be spent on them is made available now for much needed refurbishment of the Covered Market."
